LASIK at a Glance

LASIK is an alternative for many people who want the opportunity to experience freedom from glasses and contact lens. LASIK is performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately 15 minutes per eye to perform.

You may be a suitable candidate for LASIK

Not everyone is suitable for LASIK procedure. Only a certified eye doctor can assess your suitability for LASIK and if the iLASIK technology suite is a good option for you.

You may be a suitable candidate if:

  1. You have some form of refractive error with stable prescription for at least one year.
  2. You are at least 18 or 21 years of age pending the treatment.
  3. You have healthy eyes that are free from eye disease or corneal abnormality.

Two types of LASIK:

  1. Standard LASIK
  2. Custom iLASIK

How does the iLASIK procedure work?

Step 1: Creating your unique eye map
The first step is to create a 3-D map of the imperfections of your eye using wavefront-guided eye-mapping technology. 25x more precise than conventional measurement, it even measures and corrects error that are not detected by conventional technology.
Step 2: Preparing your eye
The 100% blade-free procedure uses an ultra-fast laser for creating a thin flap to prepare the cornea for treatment.
Step 3: Delivering your customised treatment
Next, an ultra-precise laser is used to gently reshape the cornea to the desired curvature, based on the digital information from your personalised eye map.
Before the iLASIK Procedure

A comprehensive eye exam is performed. It usually takes from 30-90 minutes and helps determine if LASIK is right for you.

This involves a variety of tests to check the health of your eyes and a thorough review of your medical history.

Depending on the type of contact lenses, it is very important to stop wearing those 2-4 weeks before the LASIK surgery to obtain stable measurement.

During the iLASIK Procedure

If you feel nervous when you arrive your doctor may provide some medication to help you relax.

You will be lying on a comfortable bed during brief iLASIK procedure, and your head will rest on contoured cushion. Your surgeon will be close by and may gently hold your head to help you stay perfectly steady when the laser is active, which usually lasts than minute.

Numbing eye drops will be applied to your eyes to keep them comfortable throughout the procedure.

You will feel some pressure on your eye when the flap is created to prepare your cornea for treatment; and the sensation usually lasts less than a minute.

Usually both eyes are treated during the same visit.

The entire iLASIK procedure (both eyes) usually takes about 20-30 minutes.

After The iLASIK Procedure

You must have someone drive you home because your vision will be blurry and you may be a little drowsy from the mild sedative.

As the cornea heals, you may experience some blurriness, tears may form and you may be sensitive to bright light.

Do not rub or bump your eyes. Wear UV-approved sunglasses to shield your eyes from the sun’s UV rays and reduce glare.

Protective eye shield will be placed over your eyes to help you avoid rubbing, touching or bumping your eyes in the hours following your procedure.
